The 3rd International Week of the University of Lagos climaxed on Thursday, October 12, 2023, with a special session dedicated to sharing lessons and experiences on Internationalization.
Held at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre of the University of Lagos, the interactive workshop was attended by academic staff across various faculties of UNILAG.
Speakers at the workshop session included Professor Peter McEleavy of the University of Dundee, Professor Jo Angouri of the University of Warwick and Professor Kimberly Jacob Arriola of Emory University.


The trio took turns to speak on the importance of internationalizing tertiary education, particularly in the light of globalization and technological disruption.
While sharing perspectives, experiences and prospects of international partnerships and collaborations as obtainable in their universities, the three (3) resource persons identified flexibility, students’ engagements, alumni relations and opportunities as values which must form the basis of internationalization in any tertiary institution.
They applauded the University of Lagos Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, for creating a platform for such robust discussion through the International Week, and expressed the readiness of their institutions to work with and collaborate with UNILAG in the course of broadening the horizon of knowledge, meeting global needs and addressing challenges.
Earlier in her remarks, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), University of Lagos, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, identified Internationalization as a clearly defined mission, a deliberate strategy and major project being vigorously pursued by the current management with a view to positioning UNILAG as a world-class university.


While identifying students as the core of the internationalization agenda, Prof. Atsenuwa said UNILAG is well positioned and ready to be a global player hence, no effort is being spared to groom every student, and willing faculty member into globally compliant individuals thereby raising human capacities to meet global needs.
The experience-sharing workshop, according to the Director, Office of International Relations, Partnerships and Prospects (IRPP), University of Lagos, Professor Ismail Ibraheem, was meant to further explore the theme of the International Week “Breaking the Borders of Partnership” as well as allow faculty members gather first-hand knowledge on Internationalization strategies from reputable international institutions.






The 3rd UNILAG International Week commenced on Monday, October 9, 2023 with an opening ceremony which was graced by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, Executive Secretary of TETFund, Architect Sonny Echono, acting Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr Chris Maiyaki among other dignitaries.
