Countdown to UNILAG Carnival, FASU: Creative Arts Students Hold Awareness Campaign

Students of the Creative Arts Department, University of Lagos, on Monday, July 1, 2024, held an awareness carnival around the UNILAG Akoka campus.

The carnival, anchored by the Culture and Tourism Committee of the African Universities’ Sports (FASU) Games, was to sensitize the campus community on both the UNILAG Africaribbean Carnival slated for Thursday, July 18, 2024, as well as the 11^th Federation of African Universities’ Sports (FASU) Game which is being co-hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU) and scheduled for September.

The kick-off point for the awareness carnival was the UNILAG Sports Centre where the UNILAG Carnival 2024 team members and sports contingents gathered in their numbers before moving in droves towards the UNILAG Main Gate.

The carnival-like procession moved through the Faculty of Education to access the Ransom Kuti way to the DLI Roundabout before accessing Professor Akin Adesola road to link the Tafawa Balewa Drive.

The procession saw participants defiling the rain which fell during the exercise before reaching their terminal point which is the UNILAG Senate House.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa was on ground to receive the carnival procession on behalf of the university management. She appreciated them for the initiative and their resoluteness not minding the downpour during the exercise.

Prof Atsenuwa assured of management’s commitment towards ensuring a successful outing during both the 2024 UNILAG Africaribbean Carnival as well as the 11^th FASU Games slated to hold from Friday, September 20 to Saturday 29, 2024.

While addressing the participants, the Chairman, UNILAG Sports Centre, Professor Afolabi Lesi applauded them for their dexterity and commitment towards drawing attention to both the UNILAG Carnival and the 11^th FASU Games.

Scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2024, the 2024 UNILAG Carnival, according to the lecturer in Charge; Dr Cornelius Onyekaba, is dedicated to creating awareness on issues surrounding Climate Change and human efforts which could help mitigate the effects.
