A Professor of Architecture at the University of Lagos, Mike Adebamowo, has celebrated his 60th Birthday in a very special way by unveiling the Professor Mike Adebamowo Foundation (PMAF) to support brilliant, indigent university students.
The Executive Director of UNILAG Business School, hinged his decision to establish the Foundation on his acknowledgment of the grace of God in his life, all the way from his childhood.
“I enjoyed many scholarships, which enabled me to complete my university education easily without any burden on my parents. So, to celebrate my 60th birthday, I thought it necessary to call on relatives and friends to partner with me to set up the Professor Mike Adebamowo Foundation (PMAF) in order to help the less privileged, especially indigent students in Nigerian universities.”
According to the celebrant, the aim of the Foundation is to ensure that no student will be short-changed or stagnated because of finances, adding that the Foundation will mentor the students in order to build their character and build a better society.
“The Foundation will start-off with N60 million and we hope to seek support and grants, both locally and internationally, to extend the scholarship to other levels of education. It is our own little way of giving back to the society and raising a godly generation, morally sound and with great intellectual acumen that will come up with innovations, among other things,” he said.
Some of the dignitaries who graced the event with their presence were General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare; Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Pastor Toks Osho; and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.
