The President, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), Kartina Tahir Thomson was the guest of the University of Lagos Management on Friday, June 27, 2025. The visit formed part of the IFoA President’s engagements with frontline stakeholders in actuarial profession in Nigeria
Receiving Ms. Kartina Thomson at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Muyiwa Falaiye pointed out that “UNILAG remains a trail blazer as it is the first university in Nigeria to offer academic programmes in Actuarial Science and Insurance”.
According to Prof. Falaiye, “UNILAG boasts of the finest set of alumni in Actuarial Science and Insurance who are high fliers in the industry globally”. He assured of the university’s readiness to leverage on the rich network to foster collaborations for the growth and promotion of the discipline.
In her remarks, the IFoA President applauded the UNILAG Management for “the sense of devotion and keen commitment to Actuarial Science”. She also appreciated the University for the class of faculty as shown in the quality of engagements with the institute, a development which she said, makes collaboration easier.
Also in his remarks, the Head of Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance, UNILAG, Professor Hamadu Dallah highlighted ongoing efforts to secure full accreditation of the Actuarial Science undergraduate programme while also celebrating the success of the IFoA accredited M.Sc. Actuarial Science programme.
The meeting was also attended by Miller Kingsley of the Nigerian Actuarial Society (NAS) as well as the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Abdul-Hameed Adeola Sulaimon, and senior UNILAG faculty members.
