The Innovation & Technology Management Office (ITMO) of the University of Lagos has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming research into real-world impact, as it hosted a landmark Technology Transfer Interaction on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The event, themed “Showcasing TTA Programme Achievements and Envisioning the Future of Technology Transfer at UNILAG”, brought together key stakeholders to reflect on progress made under the Technology Transfer Ambassador Programme (TTAP) and to map out the next phase of innovation commercialisation at the University.

Supported by the IREX Technology Transfer Reform Grant, the programme has emerged as a catalyst for strengthening intellectual property (IP) awareness and innovation management across faculties. The interaction convened Technology Transfer Ambassadors (TTAs), members of the IREX-supported reform team: Dr. Abiodun Gbenga-Ilori (Principal Investigator), Dr. Ayodele Shittu, and Mrs. Angela Itegboje, as well as ITMO staff led by the Acting Director, Dr. Olayinka Adewumi.

A major highlight of the session was the presentation of measurable achievements recorded since the programme’s launch. The TTAs reported conducting faculty-level innovation awareness sessions, expanding sensitisation on intellectual property protection, identifying research projects with strong commercialisation potential, and facilitating a growing stream of invention disclosures to ITMO. These efforts have significantly strengthened early-stage IP identification, improved researcher engagement with the Office, and fostered a culture of innovation accountability within the University community.

Looking ahead, ITMO and the TTAs expressed a shared resolve to consolidate the gains of the programme. Plans are underway to formalise ambassador workflows, deepen inter-faculty collaboration, broaden faculty outreach, and accelerate the translation of research outputs into protected and commercially viable innovations. The overarching goal remains clear: to position the University of Lagos as a leading driver of knowledge-based enterprise and a contributor to Nigeria’s evolving innovation economy.
