As part of the 2025/2026 academic session, the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Lagos (UNILAG), will spotlight the following students’ practical productions:
- Four Forces, One Source;
- Dance Decree; and
- A Dance Libretto
Supervised by Dr. Oluwatoyin Olokodana-James, the productions form part of structured course assessments at different levels of study, demonstrating students’ competencies in choreography, movement studies, and performance interpretation. Together, they reflect the Department’s sustained commitment to practice-led training and disciplined artistic inquiry.

Course Title: Improvisation and Choreographic Process
Date: Friday, February 20, 2026
Time: 12:00 noon

Ticket: ₦2,000
This production draws from the elements: Water, Fire, Earth, and Air; interpreting their relationship to human existence through choreographic composition and ensemble work. The performance foregrounds process, collaboration, and the shaping of raw movement into structured expression.

Course Title: Dynamics of Communication in Movement and Dance
Date: Monday, February 23, 2026

Focusing on movement as a language, this production examines how ideas travel without words. Themes of unity in diversity, governance, sport as a social connector, and the dignity of labour are interpreted through choreographic structure and performative exchange.

A Dance Libretto
Course Title: Advanced Choreography
Dates: Monday, March 2 — and Tuesday, March 3, 2026

This showcase presents four (4) captivating works: Chosen Death, The Residue, Rhythm of the Beginning, and Between Beats, each to be delivered by 4 different groups. Each group offers a distinct narrative rendered through movement, spatial design, and rhythmic interpretation, inviting audiences into varied choreographic worlds within a shared performance space.
