The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) has sought strategic collaboration with the University of Lagos to deepen professional development and strengthen human resource management practice within the university community.
The proposal was made during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the institute to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at her office on Monday, March 16, 2026.


According to the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Ahmed Ladan Gobir, the institute is keen on building stronger relationships with universities to advance human resource education and professional standards in Nigeria.
Mallam Gobir, whose address was presented by the Vice-President of the institute, Mrs. Chidinma Obiejesi outlined several key areas of collaboration proposed by the institute.


These include: membership engagement for the Vice-Chancellor, members of the university management, and administrative and human resource personnel; encouraging students to begin the journey towards becoming certified members of CIPM; and the integration of CIPM certification pathways into the university curriculum to enable dual certification for students.
Other proposed areas of interest include the establishment of a CIPM Study Centre within the university to support professional development and certification for interested students, as well as participation of UNILAG scholars and students at the third (3d ) CIPM International Academic Conference scheduled to hold in UNILAG, from Tuesday, June 2 to Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The visit, according to the delegation, forms part of CIPM’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with tertiary institutions across the country and expand opportunities for students and professionals in the field of human resource management.


Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, expressed excitement over the prospects of collaboration between both institutions, noting that such a partnership would create valuable opportunities for students as well as faculty members.
She explained that the partnership would also contribute significantly to the professionalization of UNILAG Registry, particularly through capacity building and structured professional training for administrative personnel.
Prof. Ogunsola affirmed the university’s keen commitment to industry engagement to make students industry-ready even before graduation while also providing opportunities for faculty to deepen understanding of industry challenges and providing direction for research.








The meeting ended with both parties expressing optimism about the prospects of the proposed collaboration and its potential to enhance professional training, research engagement, and institutional capacity development.
