It is double laurels for Dr. Sola Edagbami of the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos (UNILAG) as he has won the:
- Research Fellowship Grant of the Biomedical and Clinical Informatics (BCIL) Lab, Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics at the University of Michigan, USA; and
- Seed Grant for an academic research writing project titled Building Research Writing Capacity in Nigerian Universities.
The Research Fellowship Grant is for the Investigation of the Performance of the Lateral Growth Rooted Tree Optimization (LGRTO) Algorithm on Abdominal Organ (Volumetric Image) Segmentation. The LGRTO Algorithm is a product of his research work in Computational Intelligence.
The Seed Grant, awarded by STEM-Africa, African Studies Centre (ASC), University of Michigan, is aimed at supporting Nigerian scholars in academic writing for publication through a train-the-trainer model. This project is also supported by the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), and Department of Computer Sciences, UNILAG.
Under the project, early career researchers (ECR) participating in the program will gain: critical tools and strategies for successful journal publication as well as effective teaching techniques for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
