Prof. Ogunsola Becomes Matron of Nigerian Girls Guide Association

The Nigerian Girl Guides Association (NGGA), on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, decorated the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, as a Matron of the Association.

The brief ceremony which held in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, saw national officers of the Association led by the Chief Commissioner, Nigerian Girl Guides Association, Deaconess Rhoda Thomas, showering encomiums on Prof. Ogunsola describing her as a shining light whose track record of excellence has been a beacon of hope for the feminine gender.

While decorating Prof. Ogunsola as Matron, the Chief Commissioner said, her appointment is to inspire the feminine gender and deepen the impact of the Nigerian Girl Guides Association in UNILAG, Lagos state and Nigeria at large.

In her response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola appreciated the Association for honoring her, a gesture she described as a call to service.

She stressed the need for the ideals of the Nigerian Girl Guides Association (NGGA) to be resuscitated among the younger generations, especially in the face of the prevalent social discrimination, loss of social values, declining human interactions and other acts of inhumanities.

Prof. Ogunsola advocated proper integration of the Nigerian Girl Guides Association (NGGA) into Nigerian universities with a view to ensuring the entrenchment and deepening of the NGGA values among the younger generation.

The Nigerian Girl Guides Association was founded in 1919 as a Girls-only organization, it became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1966.
