Quality Service Delivery, Future–Ready Plans Top Agenda at UNILAG ICE Discourse

In demonstration of commitment towards quality and excellence in service delivery, Management of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, held a one-day discourse for all its Faculty and Departmental coordinators as well as programme staff.

The discourse took place at the Biodun Shobanjo Centre of Excellence in Multimedia Studies, Department of Mass Communication, with the theme: Total Quality Service Delivery: A Panacea for a Future Ready Institute of Continuing Education .

In her opening remarks, the Director of ICE-UNILAG, Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika said the one-day discourse became imperative to build staff capacity, promote productivity and address peculiar issues affecting students thereby enhancing the quality and output of the ICE programme.

The Registrar of the University, Mrs. Abosede Wickliffe, represented by Principal Assistant Registrar, Directorate of Academic Affairs, Mrs. Adebimpe Ajelabi addressed participants on the University’s policies on students’ matters as it relates to leave of absence, deferment, inter/intra faculty transfer, transcripts, academic standing, among others.

The Director and Deputy Director of ICE-UNILAG, Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika and Dr Olusola Thomas, respectively, spoke on course allocation, scheme of examiners, students’ recruitment and retention as well as other related issues.

The Director, Adetokunbo Babatunde Sofoluwe Centre for Information and Technology Systems (ABS-CITS), Professor MOH Amuda also took the participants through electronic process for students’ registration and other related processes (e-Registration) as well as processing of results (e-Results) while the Principal Assistant Registrar/Head of Counselling Unit, Student Affairs Division, Mrs Janet Aregbesola made a presentation on work ethics, attitudinal change, mentoring and coaching as useful tools in students’ academic development.

Beyond the presentations, the discourse served as an avenue for participants to share experiences, raise peculiar issues at their various duty posts and brainstorm on solutions to reposition the Institute to ensure pleasant students’ experience. Suggestions were also made towards improving the examination process as well as developing an ICT policy for the Institute, UNILAG.

Similarly, the event provided a platform for two staff of the Institute who were recently transferred to other units of the university, to be acknowledged and celebrated.
