ST&DU, UNILAG Kicks Off Proficiency in Writing Skills Training for Administrative, Executive Cadre Staff

The Staff Training and Development Unit (ST&DU) of the University of Lagos, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, kicked off a two-day training session on Proficiency in Writing Skills for a cross-section of non-teaching staff drawn from the administrative and executive cadre of the University.

The training commenced with an Opening Ceremony which was attended by top management staff of the University including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Afolabi Lesi; the University Librarian, Professor Olatokunbo Okikiola; Director of Academic Planning, Professor Mathew Ilori (representative of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS); Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Michael Uwakwe (Representative of the Registrar, Mrs Abosede Wickliffe) among others.

In her remarks to welcome participants, the Director of ST&DU, Mrs Aderonke Asiwaju appreciated the University Management for its avowed commitment to capacity building across all staff categories despite the daunting economic situation.

Mrs Asiwaju noted that the training will help to refine the trainees, and set the ball rolling for administrative professionalism and error-free report writing.

Prof. Ilori

Delivering the goodwill message of the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Mathew Ilori buttressed the need for participants to view the training session as a strategic investment in their career, and be open-minded and optimistic all through the exercise.

He stressed the need for all members of staff of the University to be strategically placed and suited for the delivery of their schedules of duties, and realities of a fast-evolving university

The training session is expected to cover several topics including: Overview of the University Committee System, Efficient Minutes Taking and Report Writing, Effective Communication Skills in a 21st Century University Workplace, Planning and Execution of Meetings, Automating Routine Administrative Tasks with Artificial intelligence, Work Ethics and Attitudinal Change, and Professionalism and Excellence.
