The Department of French Education, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos (UNILAG) celebrated the richness of French language and culture at the 2026 edition of La Fête de la Musique et de la Gastronomie.
Held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, under the leadership of Professor A.B. Simire, the event brought together students, staff, and guests for a vibrant showcase of French music, gastronomy, and cultural heritage.
A major highlight of the event which was held at the Faculty of Education Hall was the talent showcase, featuring musical and cultural performances by UNILAG students alongside invited secondary school students.
The programme also included a French culinary competition, where participants demonstrated their culinary skills by preparing a variety of authentic French dishes.
The event attracted members of staff from the Faculty of Education and other faculties of the University, reflecting UNILAG’s commitment to promoting language education, intercultural dialogue, and experiential learning.
Beyond celebrating French culture, the event also strengthened engagement between secondary and tertiary education by providing young learners with an opportunity to interact with the University’s academic community while deepening their appreciation of the French language and Francophone cultures.
