The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Management, on Monday, September 1, 2025, hosted and celebrated teams of athletes who recently represented the university at different national and international sports competitions.
The honored teams include:
- Hockey Team: twelve (12) student-athletes and two (2) coaches participated in the 5-Aside Male and Female Hockey Championship which was held from July 18 – 25, 2025, at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State.
Medals: The female team won gold, while the male team won silver.
- Beach Soccer Team: 11 (eleven) Beach Soccer Student Athletes and Two (2) Coaches represented UNILAG at the 2025 Edition of the Lagos State Higher Institution Beach Soccer Competition (Male), which was held on July 26, 2025, at the Atican Beach, Lekki, Lagos State.
Medal: the team won Bronze and a cash price of N100, 000.00 (One hundred thousand naira).
- FISU Games Team: two (2) Judokas (1 male & 1 female) and one (1) badminton athlete (female) represented Nigeria at the FISU Games, 2025 Edition which was held from July 16 – 26, 2025 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. The Athletes won their rights having toppled all opponents in their respective qualification trials held by Nigeria University Games (NUGA) at University of Jos between April 6 and 12, 2025.
Vice-Chancellor’s Charge and Medal Decoration
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, praised the athletes for being proud ambassadors of the university, commending their resilience and creativity.
She also applauded the coaching crew and Chairman of UNILAG Sports Council, Professor Alabi Shoneye, for their leadership and purposeful direction. The Vice-Chancellor charged the athletes to continue to strive for excellence in sports and other areas of life.
Professor Ogunsola decorated the athletes with their medals, and the team reciprocated with a jersey, expressing their appreciation for the Vice-Chancellor’s support.
