UNILAG Students Receive Sage-Grey Finance Scholarship for Academic Excellence

The Student Affairs Division of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, hosted Sage-Grey Finance Limited for the presentation of scholarship awards to five outstanding undergraduate students of the University.

The Vice President of Sage-Grey Finance, Mr. Sijuade Adeyeye, presented scholarship awards of one hundred thousand naira (₦100,000) each to the five 200-level students with the highest CGPAs.

The event, held at the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Theatre (ELT), recognised five exceptional students from the Faculties of Engineering and Management Sciences for their remarkable academic performance.

The awardees are:

  1. Komolafe, Olajide Abdul Ramon (Civil Engineering) — CGPA: 5.00
  2. Shittu, Mumeen Olabisi (Chemical Engineering) — CGPA: 4.97
  3. Ejimofor, Chigozirim Serena (Finance) — CGPA: 4.94
  4. Lampejo, Eniola Sarah (Accounting) — CGPA: 5.00
  5. Bassey, Abraham Bassey (Business Administration) — CGPA: 4.97

Representing the Dean of the Student Affairs Division, Prof. Johnson Olumuyiwa Agunsoye, the Deputy Director I of the Division, Dr. R. I. Abdulganiu, expressed appreciation to Sage-Grey Finance Limited for investing in students through its scholarship initiative. He noted that the company’s support contributes to national development and reflects a commitment to excellence beyond corporate interests.

Dr. Abdulganiu encouraged the beneficiaries to remain dedicated to their studies, describing the scholarship as both a celebration of academic excellence and the outcome of a purposeful partnership. He urged the students to continue representing their faculties, the University, and Nigeria with distinction.

In his goodwill message, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Samson Oluropo Adeosun, commended the Student Affairs Division and Sage-Grey Finance Limited for supporting students with outstanding academic records. He described the initiative as a laudable effort aimed at positively impacting students’ lives and prayed for the continued growth of the company.

Prof. Adeosun also advised the award recipients to maximise the opportunity and, in the future, contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the University.

Speaking at the event, the Impact Officer of Sage-Grey Finance Limited, Mr. Taiwo Olutunda, appreciated the University Management and the Counselling Unit of the Student Affairs Division for their collaboration and support, which he said ensured the successful selection of the 2025 scholarship beneficiaries.

Mr. Olutunda explained that the Sage-Grey Scholarship Programme is an annual initiative designed to recognise and reward academic excellence among high-performing students in Nigerian public universities. According to him, the programme targets full-time second-year students in designated courses, with the aim of promoting academic excellence and developing quality manpower for the country.

He further stated that Sage-Grey Finance measures success not only by financial performance but also by its positive impact on society. He added that the company remains committed to creating sustainable impact through lending, investment, and advisory services, supported by its Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) licence and NIBSS integration, which reflect its commitment to excellence and transparency.

In his words, “Education is a powerful tool for societal transformation, driving opportunities, innovation, and equality. At Sage-Grey Finance, we see investment in education not merely as philanthropy, but as a strategic contribution towards building a stronger Nigeria.”

Other dignitaries present at the event included Dr. O. A. Afolabi of the Department of Civil Engineering; the Principal Assistant Registrar, Counselling Unit of Student Affairs Division, Mrs. Janet Oluwatoyin Aregbesola; the Faculty Officer of the Faculty of Engineering, Mrs. Adewuyi Atinuke Abolanle; Mr. Francis Nwankwalu of Sage-Grey Finance Limited; and the Corporate Communication Officer of the company, Mr. Samuel Adedeji, among others.
