The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, received the leadership of the Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria (SECAN) in her 11th floor, Senate House office as the University is currently hosting the 23rd Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Society.
Professor Ogunsola, who received the visitors along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh, seized the moment to re-affirm her vision for advancing locally relevant academic research, and urged SECAN to focus its efforts on addressing immediate community challenges as anatomy remained a fundamental factor in healthcare services .

Her words, “…While global trends are valuable, our greatest impact lies in solving problems unique to the African sub-region”.
The Vice-Chancellor who is a distinguished Professor of Clinical Microbiology, congratulated SECAN on its milestone event, and praised its contributions to the body of knowledge and human development.
She proposed a collaborative partnership between UNILAG’s College of Medicine (CMUL) and SECAN on innovative research projects and knowledge exchanges to drive progress in anatomical sciences and other related medical fields.
In his remarks, President of SECAN, Professor Emmanuel Igho Odokuma outlined the Society’s mission to advance experimental and clinical anatomy. He highlighted plans to expand its quarterly Journal of Experimental and Clinical Anatomy (JECA) and host workshops blending global and local perspectives.
He thanked the UNILAG Management team for it support, and extended an invitation for the University to join its upcoming initiatives. A proposal met with the Vice-Chancellor’s enthusiasm.
The SECAN delegation included Professor Emmanuel Esom (Vice President), Dr. Ugochukwu Samuel Aguwa (Secretary General), Dr. Zainab Bauchi (Treasurer), Professor Emmanuel Obikili (Past President), among others.
