The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, says her office will be working with every stakeholder with a view to improving the fortunes of UNILAG and making the university compliant with the demands of a 21st century society.
Speaking on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, venue of the Annual General Meeting of the UNILAG Parents’ Forum, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Professor Musa Obalola, used the opportunity to appreciate the Parents’ Forum for its support to the university management over the years.
Prof. Ogunsola particularly acknowledged the series of interventions courtesy of the Parents’ Forum, gestures which she said, have been of immeasurable impact on students at various points of need. She also recalled the mattresses supplied by the Parents’ Forum during the NUGA-UNILAG event which held earlier this year.
While assuring the Forum and other stakeholders of her openness to suggestions, innovations and ideas which would drive transformative development in UNILAG, the Vice-Chancellor advocated teamwork with a view to making the University of Lagos future-ready.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, UNILAG Parents’ Forum, Mr. Majekodunmi emphasized the role of parents in raising well-rounded adults.
While charging parents on the need to constantly be there for their children and wards, morally, emotionally and financially, Mr. Majekodunmi described parenting as a lifelong contract which requires constant presence. He solicited more interaction between the Parents’ Forum and the university management with a view to ensuring safety, allaying fears and promoting goodwill between both parties for the good of the university.
In his remarks, the Acting Director, Office of Advancement, University of Lagos, Mr. Adebisi Dare, spoke glowingly about the support and impactful influence of the Parents’ Forum since its inauguration in 1999.
He also expressed gratitude to the current Executives, led by Mr. Majekodunmi, for their contributions to the university. Mr. Dare recalled the intervention of the Forum when some students from the Computer Science Department were to visit Egypt for a competition, as well as the paid advertorial it sponsored in a national newspaper to call for peace during the crisis that rocked the university in 2020.
Mr. Dare advocated the creation of a Foundation that will support the welfare of indigent and physically challenged students in the university in line with the University of Lagos policy that no student should be denied access to good education on the ground of being poor.
